Sogn og Fjordane Style
Western Norway developed slower that the eastern Norway in folk art painting. Primitive painting was kept to smaller items for the home. More simple motifs and execution were prevalent in the designs. Painters of this style did not need much training. Geometric designs which were easily copied from chip carving gave the items their charm. In later years, artists from the east came to paint churches here and brought with them a more refined style.
