Hallingdal Style
Painting a flower as if it were cut in half so as to display all the petals and the center, is the main theme to the Hallingdal style. Bold strokes and strong colors, using the support of black stems and leaves give a slightly masculine air to these designs. The scrolls, if used in the design, are also bold with over strokes and some liner work that accompany the flowers well.
The burnt orange background is the favorite here although some blues were used as well. The flowers are usually in blues, yellow, white and sometimes dark red. The Hallingdal style is stroke painted in an opaque manner. Any blending that might occur is done with wet on wet paint directly on the piece.
